A horrific shooting at a grocery store in Indiana has investigators working to uncover a motive. Indiana State Police said Shawn Walter Blair, 22, entered a local Elkhart grocery store on Wednesday evening concealing a gun and a knife. Sgt. Tony Slocum told Crime Feed, surveillance shows Blair walking around the store for about a half hour, appearing as if he may have called or been texting someone on his cell phone.
At some point, Blair allegedly came into contact with a 20-year-old in the store when he shot and killed her. He also tried to shoot another person, who was able to escape unharmed. In addition, Blair was also seen approaching a 44-year-old woman– investigators said he shot that woman to death as well.
By the time police arrived, they were able to distract what may have been the next victim, a store manager, before he was shot. Slocum said the person was, “In a praying position, suspect was taunting him with his handgun.” The store manager was able to escape before he was shot.
As for the suspect, he was found, and killed by police within the store. Slocum confirms to Crime Feed police recovered a .40 caliber weapon and a hunting knife as well.
Investigators said this afternoon in a press release the victims have been identified as 44-year-old, Rachelle Godfread and 20-year-old, Krystle
Dikes.
The crime scene is massive and the store is said to be shut down for hours to come.
At this point, there is no clear indication why Blair would commit this violent act. A motive has not been uncovered or released.
