VERO BEACH, FL — A Florida mother has been hit with a string of child-endangerment and drug charges after police say she abandoned her baby in a grocery store parking lot while she went inside to shoplift goods.
Sarah Wilmoth, 30, was arrested on January 13 in the parking lot of a Vero Beach Publix after a couple noticed a baby boy sitting alone in his car seat in his mom’s 2001 Chevrolet Blazer. The couple, who was parked next to the SUV, noticed the baby again when they returned 45 minutes later.

They told police that the baby “seemed to be crying hysterically.” The couple called the sheriff’s office, and deputies arrived on the scene and broke into the car.
After paramedics examined the baby and determined that he was unharmed, deputies arrested Wilmoth for leaving a child unattended in a vehicle for more than 15 minutes.
Wilmoth told police that she had left her cousin in the car with the baby, and had no idea why he may have left the scene.

According to an arrest report, detectives searched Wilmouth and found a “small clear, plastic baggy containing a clear rocky substance and a crack pipe” which she admitted was methamphetamine laced with cocaine.
She was also hit with shoplifting charges after detectives found facial cream, clear nail polish, pink nail polish, and Poo-Pourri Before-You-Go Toilet Spray stashed in her bra.
