A Florida doctor with a checkered past was recently arrested for allegedly filming up a woman’s skirt at a local grocery store.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, on Thursday, police responded to a Groveland Publix after several customers spotted Dr. Akram Ismail using the camera app on his phone to capture intimate footage of female shoppers.
According to the store manager, Ismail placed the phone under the victim’s skirt without her even knowing it.
The manager called 911, saying, “[Ismail] holds his phone in his hand, and he’s got like things on top of it, and then he acts like he’s going to pick something up. Then he bent down and did it and walked away.”
Once on the scene, police confronted the 57-year-old voyeur, who reportedly “became extremely nervous” and started sweating while breathing heavily.
Ismail claimed he didn’t do anything wrong, but surveillance footage and video from the suspect’s own phone confirmed otherwise.
“He [Ismail] stated to me that he had a compulsive disorder that caused him to take under-skirt videos of unsuspected females,” an arrest affidavit said. “He also stated to me that he had an appointment scheduled with a specialist.”
Ismail was arrested and booked at Lake County Jail. He was later released on $5,000 bond.

This is hardly Ismail’s first run-in with the law. Six years ago, he was arrested for allegedly hiring a hit man to kill his business partner.
He avoided jail time for that particular charge, but in 2005, he was sentenced to six months in federal prison for violating probation after causing a kerfuffle with an air marshall aboard a flight from New York City to Orlando.
Ismail was previously a doctor with the practice Advanced Gastroenterology & Surgery Associates, though the offices say he no longer works there.
The doctor’s license was suspended in December 2012, but was reinstated after Ismail paid $30,000 in fines.
